Getting rid of the emotional ties associated
with your weight and your belly fat

OK, so you want to lose weight. You want to be slimmer, fitter and healthier.
Now it is time to ask yourself "Why?"
If you are really committed to getting rid of your belly fat, start by asking yourself the following question
"Why do I want to lose my excess weight and my belly fat?"
Is it because you want to feel better in yourself? Is it because belly fat is one of the leading causes of diabetes? Will it give you higher self esteem? Are you doing it for you or for someone else? What will it give you when you lose the weight and get slimmer? What are you wanting to achieve? Will it change your mood? What will it feel like to have a slimmer, fitter, healthier body?
Take some time to really explore those feelings and emotions now. Be honest with yourself and allow the responses to surface.
It will help even more if you are able to write down your answers in one long flow of writing.
For the best results put on a piece of music that you enjoy and keep writing instinctively until the song finishes. Write as much as you can (without stopping) about why you want to lose weight, get slimmer and lose your belly fat.
Only read back your answers when the song has finished.
Do you notice a pattern in what you have written at all? How much of what you have written was pleasant, encouraging and supportive? How much was not? This brings us to our next area of focus ....
The first step to losing your belly fat and feeling better about yourself is acceptance
If you wanting to lose your weight and get slimmer, then the first stage after knowing why, is to start afresh, with a clean slate. Constantly beating yourself up will not help you achieve your goal, so
Decide here and now to be more supportive to you
What does that mean? Well it may mean to keep that nagging voice quiet for a bit, to monitor your thoughts and to set yourself some motivation to help you along the way. It may mean that you recognise that losing your belly fat will be a journey, not an instant result.
In the same way that you don't expect a baby to walk first time, you can not expact to lose your excess weight instantaneously.
So decide to give yourself some leeway, where you only say positive and encouraging things to yourself for at least a month. Not only will it help you on your journey to lose your belly fat, it will also help your self esteem in general.
