Fears and phobias can get in the way of your ideal life.  It can affect where you go, how you interact with others, what you think about and how you behave.  Some people will notice that their children start to have the same fears and phobias and that adds guilt to the feelings of being trapped, feeling "stupid" or unhappy.

Fears and phobias tend to be irrational in nature, the logical sides of peoples brains try to convince them that they should just "get on with it", but a part of them just will not listen and runs the equivalent of a "fear and phobia cd".  This cd plays the same track, in the same order every time, and it usually ends up in the same physical results or behaviour.

Some people will hide their fears and phobias from others for fear of ridicule or of "being found out". They pretend that everything is ok, but inside they are scared.  In reality though, you are never really able to fully hide the symptoms of fear, as it has certain physical characteristics that kick in when you are feeling that emotion.  When you play that "fear and phobia cd", there are certain physiological responses that your body makes.

So how do you get rid of fears and phobias? 

Well, there are a number of techniques that you can use, some of the most effective ones that we have come across combine a mixture of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and Hypnotherapy to give the best results.

When people have a fear or a phobia they tend to be able to run the fear even when the physical threat is not present.  People can think about the thing that makes them scared and that will sometimes be enough to trigger off the physical reactions.  This would indicate that they are running some kind of movie or series of pctures in their heads.

So what happens when you change the movie or scratch the fear and phobia cd?

If you have a fear or a phobia then do this exercise and notice how it feels different

  • Think about something that you are scared of.  It can be a physical thing or a situation.
  • Drain out all the colour of the picture that you have created and make it black and white - or sepia like the old movies.
  • Push the edges of the picture inwards so that you can see it as a framed picture
  • Push the whole picture away from you to at least treble the distance
  • Now imagine that the fear picture suddenly becomes fuzzy, with the white interference that you may get when you take out the tv aerial.
  • If there are any sounds associated with the fear or phobia, these get fuzzy, muted and distorted
  • Now move the whole picture way off to the left, then way off to the right.  Choose where you want to leave it.

As you think about your old fear or phobia now, what differences to you notice?

This is just one quick technique to overcome fears and phobias, sometimes it takes a bit of practice, sometimes it will have an immediate effect.  The thing with both fears and phobias though is that you can change them and eliminate them forever, but only if you want to.
